张伟
张伟，1952年生于北京。1974年12月31日在自己家中与十余同好举办XXX中首次地下画展。1979年参加无名画会画展。作品以抽象绘画的探索为主，并多次在自己家中举办地下抽象画展。1985年联合其他九名画家公开举办的《十人涂画展》被***当局查封。1986年11月因到美国参加《中国前卫艺术》画展而定居纽约，1996年因在街头摆买画作而涉身与纽约市长、市警局关于言论自由的法律诉讼 (他是原告之一)，2003年获最高法院判决胜诉。2005年秋迁回北京。2006参加《无名画会回顾展》, 同年11月作个展。2008年参加的群展有：《意派: 中国“抽象”三十年》、《穿越》、《走向后抽象》、《中国公寓艺术1970s-1990s》、《艺术的魅力—当代艺术收藏在中国展》和《中国幻想》等。2009年底画室搬到蒋府艺术区。2010年参加群展《无物之阵—当代抽象艺术学术邀请展》。
艺术理念：我爱我的作品，但更爱创作本身。作品其实不过是人们精神交流的载体。
Zhang Wei, was born in Beijing in 1952. On December 31st, 1974, he and ten other artists held the first underground art exhibition at his apartment in Beijing. during the Cultural Revolution. In 1979, he participated in the first public exhibition of the No Name Group. In the early 1980s, he set up a new group focusing mainly in the exploration of abstract painting. He also repeatedly held underground abstract exhibitions at his own home. In 1985, in alliance with nine other artists, he organized a public exhibition called the “Graffiti Exhibition of Ten Artists” that was closed down by the police. In November of 1986, he left for the US to participate in the group exhibition “Avant-garde Chinese Art” at Vassar College and settled down in New York. During the twenty years in the US, he took up several kinds of occupation and continued his pursuit of artistic creation; many solo exhibitions were held spanning two decades. In 1991, he toured the United States by jeep and painted “en plein air” throughout the trip. He divorced Li Shan in the same year. In 1996, due to his involvement of displaying and selling his art on the streets of NY, he became one of the original plaintiffs in a free speech lawsuit suing the mayor of New York City and the New York City Police Department. The New York Court of Appeals ruled in favor of the plaintiffs in 2003. He relocated back to Beijing in the fall of 2005. He participated in the “Retrospective Exhibition of the No Name Group” in 2006. In the spring of 2007, he set up his studio in Suo Jia Village in the suburbs of Beijing and had a solo exhibition in the same year. He participated in the following group exhibitions in 2008: “Yi School: Thirty Years of Chinese 'Abstraction'”, “Cross-Reference”, “Towards the Post-abstract”, “Apartment Art in China 1970s-1990s”, “The Love of Art-Collecting Contemporary Art in China” and “Chinese Fantasies”, etc. He relocated his studio to Jiang Fu Art District at the end of 2009. In 2010, he participated in the group exhibition “'Array with No Object' Academic Invitational Exhibition of Contemporary Abstract Art”.
Artistic Concept: I love my work, but even more so, creation itself. Works of art are merely the carriers of spiritual exchange for humanity.
